Getting to know you…

Hello!

I figure the best way to start is a straight forward introduction…

I’m Kat. I’m 28, working mum of one and completely new to this whole blogging experience.

Is that right? Are there rules to this?!

I have always felt like I had a blog inside me, but never new where to start, but after some recent conversations with friends and colleagues, I’ve decided that now is as good a time as any to give it a go.

My beautiful little girl (I’ll call her Little K from here) came in to my life in November 2015 and is soon to be 20 months old. After a year and a half of working out what the hell I am doing, I feel I may now be in a place where I may be able to take a little control back. I doubt it, but it’s worth a try!

I have been back at work for 8 months after 1 years maternity leave, and am still trying to find the right balance in my life and once again work out who I am… I spent one chaotic yet incredible year just being ‘Mummy’ and now trying to balance that with ‘woman with career’ (don’t know why but I just don’t see myself as a ‘career woman’. What the difference is? I’m not sure) and while I have experience of being both of these people at separate times, being both all rolled into one is a whole new adventure.

Instead of battling it all out inside my head trying to figure out what the hell is going on, I figured there must be some other people who have been, are going, or will be going through this at some point, so why not reach out and work it out together. We don’t all have to be ‘Mummy’ all of the time. And that is OK. Since becoming a mum I have found that the best feeling is knowing that you are not alone!  So let’s make this journey together!

My main interests and most likely topics of conversation will cover parenting (highs and lows!), health and wellbeing (I am by no means a gym junkie or exercise addict… I am currently working to hit 10k steps each day, so don’t expect any work out tips!), personal development, lifestyle hacks, personal finance… I’m a little bit of a mixed bag really.

Why The Ad-Lib Mummy?

I’m sure every blogger will tell you, coming up with a catchy, fun and relevant blog name is not as easy as it actually seems. I spent days working out ways to incorporate all the things I wanted to into my name. It has been a nightmare!

So where did it come from? Well it’s safe to say, that on a daily basis, I feel like I am making things up as I go along.. I have never been around young children before. None of my friends have kids and I am literally learning as I go.

I actually trained in Musical Theatre at university, and I could pretty much handle everything, except thinking on my feet and having to improvise… I’m the girl who wouldn’t even get up to sing karaoke unless I had rehearsed before hand!

So this ad-lib life I’m currently pulling together is more than a little out of my comfort zone. But I’m making the most of it, and just trying to make each day better than the last.
